Lady Gaga has played her first UK performance in almost a year following successful surgery to treat her broken hip.
The pop star performed for thousands of fans – known as Little Monsters – at the Roundhouse in Camden to open the 2013 iTunes Festival in London.
Gaga – whose real name is Stefani Germanotta – revealed during the gig that she felt like she was “back home”, likening herself to Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz.
“To say I’ve missed you is a big understatement. When I’m without you, I can’t live,” she said.
“I’m a bit like Dorothy right now – there’s no place like home.”
The singer, who played an hour-long set, performed seven new songs from her upcoming third album ARTPOP.
Gaga underwent surgery for a broken hip in February. She admitted that making the record had been a cathartic process.
“I went through some really tough times I’ve never talked about. I won’t tell you now – no need to be a downer – but as I wrote ARTPOP I had to take off my wigs and make-up,” she said.
“I used them to be different people and it worked. But in order to grow and to be honest I had to show you what’s underneath.
What I wanted you to know is that I care not for success, I care not if people like it. I’m willing to risk it all for what I believe in.”
Gaga played her previous UK show at Twickenham stadium in September 2012 during her Born This Way Ball tour.
