Las Vegas Bomb Alert 'Sparked By British Teen'

A teenager who sparked a security alert on the Las Vegas strip has been arrested for allegedly making a hoax bomb claim.

Officers swooped to detain the 17-year-old from Sutton, south London, an hour after he called UK police claiming there was a bomb under a taxi outside the MGM Grand in the city.

Scotland Yard passed the message to authorities in the US so they could search the scene, while British police worked to track down and arrest the nuisance caller.

The teenager was held on Monday and released on bail until later this month.

The MGM Grand is one of the Las Vegas strip’s world famous hotels, with 5,000 rooms.

The venue hosts major events such as boxing world title fights and rock and pop concerts.

The security alert came on a day when some of the biggest stars of UFC mixed martial arts were at the hotel for a media day.

The complex had hosted gigs by Lady Gaga, Aerosmith and Tiesto over the weekend before the bomb hoax.
