Alan Titchmarsh has gone behind the walls of Buckingham Palace for a new show about its rarely-seen gardens.
The broadcaster spent a year at the palace exploring the 39 acres in the heart of London.
The two-part ITV show, called The Queen’s Garden, uses technology to follow its progress through the seasons and meet the staff who work there.
Historian Lucy Worsley will delve into its origins as a hunting ground for King Henry VIII and examine archive footage showing the part it has played in royal family life.
Richard Klein, director of factual commissioning at ITV, said: “There is something magical about a garden hidden behind high walls, and no more so than here, at Buckingham Palace. Guided by Alan Titchmarsh and the four seasons, The Queens Garden is a delightful and charming exploration of that magical world, with a light dusting of royal history.”
Titchmarsh, a former Gardener’s World presenter, hosted the BBC coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show for many years and also had his own chat show on ITV.
