A claim that Justin Bieber illegally sprayed graffiti on a hotel in Brazil is being investigated by police.
Police in Rio de Janeiro said they were looking into whether the Canadian teen singer had painted the exterior wall of a beachside hotel.
The website of O Globo, Brazil’s largest news outlet, reported that photographers snapped photos of Bieber committing the act on Tuesday morning.
The 19-year-old singer is in Brazil as part of his South American tour.
Rio police said they would look into the incident and determine whether Bieber had broken Brazilian laws against the destruction of property.
Brazil’s civil police force said they had already interviewed a Bieber representative and would continue gathering details.
Melissa Victor, one of Bieber’s representatives at Universal Music Group in New York, did not return a phone call for comment from Reuters news agency.
The incident is the latest in reports grabbing attention during Bieber’s Brazilian trip, including one saying he had attended a Rio nightclub that in the past has been shuttered for prostitution.
Defacing buildings is a crime in Brazil punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine.
