Cameras In Appeal Court For A Second Day

Cameras recorded two cases in the Royal Courts of Justice today, a day after history was made when Sky News cameras were allowed to film inside the court for the first time.

The cases were both appeals against sentence and were unrelated.

Mashain Pitchei was seeking a review of his sentence after he was convicted of sexual assault and jailed for four years in May 2013.

He had admitted posing as a taxi driver in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, to sexually assault a 20-year-old woman.

In the second case Joseph Stott was appealing against his sentence for firearms offences.

He was jailed in January 2013 for plotting to supply a shotgun to a Birmingham gang for use in a potentially lethal shooting.

On Thursday cameras recorded legal arguments in the case of convicted counterfeiter Kevin Fisher who had applied for leave to appeal against his sentence of seven years. Fisher was not in court.

His barrister – Prime Minister David Cameron’s brother Alexander Cameron QC – presented legal arguments to three judges, providing the public with an insight into how the court works.

The judges rejected the request.
