Pair released after shooting quiz

A man and a woman arrested over a gun killing in Northern Ireland have been released from custody.

The pair were being questioned about the shooting of 28-year-old Edward Gibson in west Belfast on Friday.

The 33-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were released pending a report being sent to the Public Prosecution Service, a police spokesman said.

A third suspect, a 30-year-old man, who was also detained over the gun attack remains under arrest while he is receiving hospital treatment.

Police have appealed to the friends of Mr Gibson to come forward with information.

He was taken to hospital at around 5pm on Friday after being shot in the stomach and thigh, in an alley beside Clonfadden Crescent and Divis Court, but later died from his injuries.

Police are linking the shooting to an incident which occurred in Albert Street approximately half an hour beforehand, when a number of men were involved in a fight.

The 30-year-old man being treated in hospital is believed to have been stabbed in the earlier row.
