Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos has shared the demo of a new song “Somewhere,” via his Eastern Shift project, as well as several other new tracks in various states of completion. The 90-second “Somewhere” bursts with all the synthesizer giddiness of a Passion Pit tune or mid-2000s Kanye West, complete with a high-pitched helium voice singing Barry Manilow’s “Somewhere Down the Road” lyrics about how in the future, “you will see that you belong with me” before breaking to the sound of a cheering crowd. Pretty Much Amazing first reported on the track, which appeared on his SoundCloud.
Other tracks Angelakos posted include an “All Right Passion Pit Remix” of One Republic’s “Love Runs Out,” an instrumental co-credited to Angelakos and Passion Pit called “Cuddle Fuddle,” a snippet of an Eastern Shift demo called “But Will He Loves Me Like Calvin Loves Alice?” and a joyful, eight-minute instrumental dating back to 2007 called “Batty Lashes.”
Since releasing Passion Pit’s 2012 album Gossamer, Angelakos has maintained a relatively low profile. Most recently, he contributed vocals to “Recess,” the title track of Skrillex’s 2014 album. Passion Pit’s most recent release was a 2013 EP, Constant Conversions. That December, the group shared a new version of the song “Sleepyhead” from its debut album, 2009′s Manners, that found Angelakos playing the song solely on piano.
The band recently posted a photo to Facebook that suggested it was working on an album with a 2015 release in mind, since it prominently featured a whiteboard which appeared to contain song titles, including one called “Five Foot Ten.”
