Britain’s Got Talent singer James Smith has joked that the judges look like dolls up close.
The 15-year-old from Essex, who wowed judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams with his rendition of Nina Simone’s Flying High, admitted he got star-struck when he came face-to-face with the foursome.
“Going to the audition, you see the judges up close. They look like Barbie dolls, including Simon Cowell,” he told Heat, adding: “I wanted to see if they were real.”
James, who was voted through to the next round of the ITV talent show, revealed his impressive audition has boosted his cred amongst his schoolmates.
“It was like I was a different person. I was the new kid – everyone was staring,” he continued.
“I think that’s the best thing about the show, to be honest – girls see you in a different light. I must have been ugly before, because BGT has changed it for me.”
He added: “They (girls) were definitely acting differently towards me, especially the ones in the younger years. People don’t stop looking at me now. It’s a bit weird. My mates have got more attention too. They’re loving it!”
