Today is May Day, the international workers holiday marked by protests and celebrations around the world. To mark the occasion, Tom Morello, who has participated in protests from the Arizona immigration battle to playing near the Republican National Convention with Rage Against the Machine in 2008, is making his Union Town EP, released in 2011, available for free on morellomayday.com

The EP features acoustic originals plus covers including Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land,” Merle Travis’ “16 Tons,” and  a live version of Morello’s “Union Song,” recorded in Madison, WI when Morello joined thousands of protestors to rail against an anti-union bill proposed by Republican governor Scott Walker. “I come from a coal-mining town in central Illinois where everybody was union,” he told RS at the rally.

Here is a message from Morello:

Here is my Union Town EP available for free download this May Day. This record is dedicated to working people of every nationality, age, color, and religion who have the courage to stand up for justice and dignity in the workplace…and beyond. Enjoy the tunes and fight the power!

In Solidarity,

Tom Morello
