Capaldi exit means Thick Of It over

Armando Iannucci has said that The Thick Of It has definitely finished for good because Peter Capaldi won’t be back.

The BBC political comedy’s creator told the Radio Times that as far as he was concerned, the show was over as soon as Peter said he wouldn’t be returning to his foul-mouthed spin doctor character Malcolm Tucker.

He said: “When Peter [Capaldi] said he didn’t want to do any more Malcolm Tucker, that was it really.”

But he added that he planned to visit Peter on the set of Doctor Who and was keen to see his new series: “I am really looking forward to watching him.”

Armando also said that he would like to make one more series of his US political comedy Veep, which stars Julia Dreyfuss, and that he didn’t have a definite end date in mind for it.

He explained: “In the US, series tend to have four yearly cycles so we will get to the end of season four and see where that takes us.”
