For those of you out of the loop, the point of the Meow Game is to work the word “meow” into casual conversation as many times as possible without calling attention to it. And a video of Kalamazoo Wings hockey player Ray Kaunisto’s masterful performance is going viral.
Kaunisto tallies an impressive seven meows during a 40-second on-ice interview. That’s one every 5.7 seconds!
By the end, the reporter is onto the stunt, holding in a laugh as the camera cuts away. Kaunisto admitted that this prank almost didn’t happen, though. “I almost chickened out, I almost didn’t do it, but I kind of just went with it,” he told MLive. “In a lot of interviews with hockey players they pretty much say the same exact things over and over. I kind of wanted to mix it up a little bit.”
He also, unsurprisingly, revealed he’s a big fan of the cult 2001 comedy “Super Troopers,” which popularized the Meow Game with this scene:
While executed perfectly, Kaunisto’s stunt still doesn’t beat Thomas DeCoud’s 14-meow performance during a 2012 “SportsCenter” interview. However, that was a phoner, so Kaunisto certainly had a higher degree of difficulty.
