Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott And Da Brat Will Bring You Back To 1997 With Their ‘Ladies Night’ Performance

Back in 1997, “Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix)” became a massive hit, bringing together some of the best MCs at the time for a remix that topped the Billboard rap charts and gave women an anthem they could call their own. Last night, for the first time in a decade-and-a-half, the ladies responsible performed the track live.

At the 2014 Soul Train Awards, which were taped in early November but aired on Sunday night (November 30) on Centric, the majority of the song’s original players were on hand to recapture the moment. After an intro from Eric Benet, Lil’ Kim kicked things off, rapping her verse and capping it off with a Shmoney Dance. Next, a screen played clips from the music video for Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ verse; the TLC member passed away in 2002.

Kim passed the mic to Da Brat, who burst onto the stage with a fury of energy, looking as excited and locked in as ever. Missy Elliott capped things off with her fan-favorite part.

Angie Martinez, who was also featured on the original track, didn’t hit the stage, but Missy, Kim and Da Brat were joined by Total, MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, and Yo-Yo to help celebrate Ladies Night.
