Ronson celebrates chart-topping run

A stunned Mark Ronson is celebrating his seventh week at the top of the UK’s official singles chart.

The chart-topping run of Ronson’s worldwide smash Uptown Funk featuring Bruno Mars was interrupted by X Factor winner Ben Haenow during Christmas week. It means that Ronson’s track has recorded the most weeks at number one since Leona Lewis’s Bleeding Love in 2007.

Ronson told OfficialCharts.com: “It’s such an incredible thing to be number one even for one week. It’s my first number one of any single I’ve ever had, so to be number one for seven weeks is something that just blows my mind, it’s amazing.

“It’s cool because it means that you guys all like what we like, which is good funk music and dance music played by musicians. It’s insane, so thank you.”

Uptown Funk has now managed six weeks in a row at as number one, overtaking acts such as Duffy’s Mercy, Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl and Basshunter FT DJ Mental Theos’s Now You’re Gone which managed five straight weeks at number one in recent years.

Uptown Funk was streamed 2.3 million times in the last seven days, the Official Charts Company said.

Hozier’s Take Me To Church is at number two, ahead of Black Eyed Peas’ frontwoman Fergie who stormed 120 places with the song LA Love (La La) at number three. It is her first solo UK top 40 hit since Big Girls Don’t Cry peaked at number two in 2007.

Meghan Trainor’s Lips Are Movin’ is at number four while Rihanna has a brand-new entry at number five with her track FourFive Seconds with Kanye West and Paul McCartney.

Trainor is celebrating securing the top on the Official Albums Chart with her debut long-player called Title.

It finished 5,000 copies ahead of nearest rival, Ed Sheeran’s X while last week’s number one Uptown Special from Ronson which tumbled to number three.

Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour at number four followed by George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage complete the top five.
