Ed Burns creates TV police show

Ed Burns is set to write, star in and direct a new period cop drama for TNT.

The Mob City actor is putting together Public Morals, a series set in 60s New York City where Ed stars as a member of the Public Morals Division, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Police in the division walk the line between morality and corruption as they get tempted by all kinds of vice that they come into contact with at work.

It is a personal story for Ed, whose own dad worked for the NYPD in the 60s.

Also hitting the channel at the same time as Public Morals is an untitled action adventure that is described as a mix of The Bourne Identity and National Treasure, and will be penned by Bourne writer Blake Herron.

Other pilots set for TNT in 2014 include The Last Ship, Murder In The First and Legends.
