In the time that Beyoncé took to create 14 songs and 17 videos for her surprise visual album, anything could have happened. For at least a year, the singer went under the radar, shooting videos in New York City and Houston and working with producers like Timbaland and Detail without a peep.


Given that she and her crew could keep the massive secret for so long, it should come as no surprise that the Queen Bey actually recorded 80 songs for Beyoncé. At least, that’s what she claims in a new behind-the-scenes promo for the album, which dropped earlier this month.



“When I started picking the songs that I gravitated towards — because I recorded about 80 songs — it was the songs that were more effortless for me that stuck around, that I still love as much as I loved them when I recorded them a year ago,” Bey said in the featurette.


Beyoncé is then seen recording “Drunk in Love” with Jay Z. “We just kind of had a party,” she said in the interview. “We weren’t trying to make a hit record. We were just trying to have fun, and I think you can hear that in the record.”



In the rest of the clip, fans can see the shooting of “Drunk,” “No Angel,” “Blue,” “Rockets,” “Yonce” and “XO” with directors like Terry Richardson, Lil Internet and Ricky Saiz. Some of the videos feature a “run ‘n gun” type of filming — Bey and the directors admit that they didn’t plan that much. She admits, “I’m trying to rebel against perfection … It’s fun because you never know what’s going to happen.”


As for when we’ll hear that bevy of unreleased tracks, we have a feeling they’ll come out of nowhere. But as Beyoncé taught us, we don’t really need to be prepared. We’ll just let it happen.
