Channing Tatum Shows Off His Adorable ‘Book of Life’ Character Voice

Channing Tatum and Christina Applegate sat down with MTV’s Josh Horowitz at San Diego Comic-Con to talk voicing characters in their latest project, the Guillermo del Toro-produced film “The Book of Life” – and the conversation got…ehem…animated.

After discussing how they came to the project, Applegate exclaimed, “It’s unlike any animation you’ve ever seen before,” which segued into the question of whether or not Tatum used his own voice or created a new one for his character Joaquin.

“I’m definitely not doing a Mexican accent, let’s be clear about that,” Tatum said, laughing. “I’m not really doing a character character, I really just listened to [director] Jorge [Gutierrez] and we kind of dialed in who we thought – Joaquin! – is how he says his name…”

That’s when Tatum’s train of thought was derailed by Applegate’s mimicry of the voice, which he then enthusiastically reiterated. The squeaky-sweet tête-à-tête starts at the 2:29 mark.
