Jones set for Star Wars spin-off?

Felicity Jones has apparently landed the coveted female lead in one of the standalone Star Wars movies.

The Theory Of Everything actress saw off competition from the likes of Rooney Mara to bag the part, which is shrouded in secrecy, according to the Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog.

Oscar nominee Felicity, 31, and other actresses tested for the part in Los Angeles last week.

And the English star is now said to be in talks for the film.

Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez are two of the actors tipped for the male lead.

Disney and Lucasfilm haven’t revealed plot details for the movie – or even which characters it focuses on – but there has been speculation that the first two standalones could be about the early days of Princess Leia and Han Solo.

Production is expected to get under way later this year and the spin-off will be released in December 2016, after JJ Abrams’ seventh instalment Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

It will be followed by Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII in December 2017, and another spin-off to be directed by Josh Trank.
