Bereaved Flanagan postpones shows

Comedian Micky Flanagan has postponed four shows over the next four nights following the death of his mother.

The shows were at The Brighton Centre on Wednesday and the O2 Arena on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

A spokeswoman said he had taken the difficult decision to postpone them.

The Brighton date has been rescheduled to December 7, while the 02 dates have been rescheduled to December 2, 3 and 4 (from October 24, 25 and 26 respectively).

For people who can make the new dates, original tickets will remain valid for each date respectively.

If people are unable to attend the rescheduled dates, tickets or e-tickets should be returned to the point of purchase before November 15 for a refund.

:: One of the extra features on Flanagan’s 2011 DVD The ‘Out Out’ Tour was a short film in which he interviewed his mother, Sylvie, and father, Jim, in their home in Bethnal Green, east London.

The cockney comic, who has come to fame relatively late in life, asks: ‘So how are you dealing with my astronomical success?’ His mother, who worked as a machinist, replies drily: ‘I’m overwhelmed,” adding: “I don’t know Sunday from Monday half the time.” His father, however, comments on his son turning his back on a ‘blinding job’ as a fish porter at Billingsgate Market. ‘Very unusual, give up a job like that.’

Flanagan, who worked as a teenager with his father at the market, is now one of Britain’s top comedians, and has appeared on such programmes as Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Live at the Apollo (as both performer and host), and Have I Got News for You.
