Bletchley Park launches Honour Roll

War buffs will be able to research loved ones’ contributions to the groundbreaking Bletchley Park code-breakers with the launch of a special website.

For the first time, the world famous park has created a fully searchable Roll of Honour.

The facility allows people all over the world to learn about veterans’ roles in the code-breaking efforts of the Government Code and Cypher School during the Second World War at Bletchley Park and its outstations.

Search options include an individual veteran’s name – either maiden or married – or by section, location or building.

The website also allows for contributions to be made by users.

The more that veterans and their families tell the Bletchley Park Trust about the work they carried out, the richer the archive – described in military circles as vital – will become.

The website also reflects the social lives and fun many veterans had.

Contributor Rozanne Colchester said: “There were a great many love affairs going on about which we did not speak in those claustrophobic days of the war.

“At Bletchley I took part in the revues.

“I was a dancer when young, and was part of the chorus at Bletchley.

“Every week we had a day off and usually went to London.”

Bletchley bosses said the database was largely dependent on information given by veterans themselves as well as their loved ones and former colleagues.

Veterans and their representatives can add photographs and written accounts of their wartime work.
