Bloom braves Merton and Hislop

Politician Godfrey Bloom, who was dropped by Ukip over his controversial comments, is to brave a guest role on BBC1 panel show Have I Got News For You.

The MEP, whose remarks overshadowed his party’s annual conference and led to him having the whip withdrawn, will appear on November 8 to face a ribbing from team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop.

Alexander Armstrong will host the show and broadcaster Victoria Coren will return as the other guest.

Bloom made offensive remarks about women at a party event – which he claimed were a joke – and then had an altercation with a TV journalist to the disapproval of his party bosses.

He said of his forthcoming appearance: “I very much look forward to regretting being on the show. As I have been booted out of Ukip in their purge against ‘jokism’, I am excited about being with professional jokists on the panel.”
