With 10 top 10 singles, four multiplatinum albums and a plethora of American Music Awards, Grammys and VMAs, it’s undeniable that TLC was one of the most celebrated acts of the ’90s.

But with the trio’s high-profile successes came chaos and misfortune. From Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins’ battle with sickle cell anemia to Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes torching her former boyfriend’s home to the group filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, there’s no question TLC’s fame came with a price.

And Monday night (October 21) on VH1, the triumphs and tragedies will be relived in “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.” Keke Palmer, Lil’ Mama and Drew Sidora take on the roles of Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, Left Eye and T-Boz, respectively.

“It’s, like, crazy to see yourself on TV and somebody’s doing a movie and playing you,” T-Boz told MTV News. “It’s crazy. I still can’t believe it.”

Both T-Boz and Chilli served as executive producers and consultants of the VH1 original movie, allowing them to get up close and personal with the actors.

“We had sleepovers; I mean, we really hung out with them so they could pick up those things that they needed to portray us the best way,” Chilli explained.

Why TLC Said ‘Hell No’ To Britney’s ‘…Baby One More Time’

“Yeah, we spent extra time with Lil’ Mama just because she didn’t have Lisa and we have to be the voice of Lisa for her,” T-Boz added of Lopes, who was killed in a 2002 car crash. “So we spent a lot of extra time with her.”

Having given the leads so much tender loving care, the ladies were more than impressed with the final outcome of the project.

“It makes us really, like, super-duper proud of the actresses, and, I mean, I’m just so glad that we took them under our wing and just gave them everything that they needed, from the stories to how we felt to how we interact and all that stuff,” Chilli said.
