Best headphones of 2013 to add to your Christmas list

Headphones have become a big business over the last couple of years with numerous manufacturers adding on-ear or over-ear variants to their offerings.

But which ones should you add to your Christmas list this year? Whether you are looking for some to listen to your favourite band, or some to listen to the TV series you are watching on your smartphone or tablet, here are some of the best from 2013.

Logitech Ultimate Ears 6000 – £140

The Logitech Ultimate Ears 6000 headphones provide a great sound quality with a loud output and big bass, as well as a clean mid-range and plenty of high-end.

They feature a noise-cancellation switch that you can flick for when you are in a busy place and the cable has an iPod and Android compatible microphone, along with volume control and multi-function button.

Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear – £170

Sennheiser’s Momentum On-Ear headphones come in a number of colours including blue, pink, green and ivory and the sound they produce is pretty colourful too.

They feature a bowed frame with a soft side for resting your head and the cups themselves are made with Alcantara leather, which is sometimes used in higher end car interiors so it will be like having the Bentley of headphones with these.

Monster Diamond Tear High-Definition On-Ear Headphones – £199.95

One for the fashion conscious, the Monster Diamond Tear headphones come with a ControlTalk cable to enable you to manage phone calls, as well as a cleaning cloth to keep the diamond-looking finish shiny.

They have a low-profile, right-angle connector, along with a standard headphone cable without the remote for airplane listening and they are said to have “pillow-soft” ear cushions.

Sony MDR-1R – £200

The Sony MDR-1R headphones come in black and red or silver and brown, featuring an angular design that helps to envelope the ears, adding to the noise insulation.

Silicon rings are featured for quieter adjustments and the earcups rotate on two different axes to ensure they sit comfortably. The MDR-1R’s are stylish and comfortable and they sound great, featuring a fast response and wide frequency range.

Sol Republic Master Tracks XC headphones Studio Tuned by Calvin Harris -£230

Sol Republic teamed up with DJ and producer Calvin Harris for the Master Tracks XC headphones said to be “acoustically accurate for music artists to use in the studio”, which sounds spot on to us.

The sound quality is brilliant and the design is great too. If you are someone who wants deep, low-end bass with a stronger mid-range and extended high notes, these are a great choice.

Bowers & Wilkins P7 – £329

The Bowers & Wilkins P7 headphones feature active noise-cancellation abd the leather cushioned ear cups come with a brushed-aluminium and steel finish.

They have a detachable cable that features a remote control and a microphone so you’ll be able to use them with your smartphone and they produce brilliant sound quality.

Beats Alexander Wang – TBC

The second headphones in our list to come from a celebrity partnership, Beats has partnered with Alexander Wang for a custom line including a limited edition pale gold and matt black set that are beautiful.

The new Beats Studio are said to be lighter, stronger and more comfortable than previous versions. They come with adaptive noise cancelling, a 20-hour rechargeable battery and remote talk.
