Carter, Mirren gets Globe nods



Helena Bonham Carter will face Dame Helen Mirren at the Golden Globes as they are both up for the same award.


Helena’s portrayal of Elizabeth Taylor in BBC Four’s Burton And Taylor sees her nominated for best actress in a mini-series or TV movie, along with Helen’s performance as defence attorney Linda Kenney Baden in Phil Spector.


White Queen star Rebecca Ferguson, Jessica Lange and Elisabeth Moss for Top Of The Lake are also up for the same gong.


Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor are both nominated again for best actor in a mini-series or TV movie for BBC dramas Luther and Dancing On The Edge respectively.


They’re up against Matt Damon and Michael Douglas, who star in Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic Behind The Candelabra, while Al Pacino gets a nod for his portrayal of jailed music producer Phil Spector.


Michael Sheen’s performance in Masters Of Sex is shortlisted for best actor in a TV series drama along with Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, James Spader, Liev Schreiber and House Of Cards star Kevin Spacey.


Period drama Downton Abbey has been nominated for best TV drama series alongside Breaking Bad, House Of Cards, Masters Of Sex and The Good Wife, while Dancing On The Edge, White Queen and Top Of The Lake face American Horror Story: Coven and Behind The Candelabra for the best TV movie or mini-series.


Zooey Deschanel (New Girl) and Girls star Lena Dunham are among those shortlisted for best actress in a TV comedy series along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Amy Poehler and Edie Falco.


Michael J Fox, Jason Bateman, Don Cheadle, Andy Samberg and Jim Parsons are up for best actor in a TV comedy series.


The 2014 Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will take place on January 12, 2014.
