Danny Dyer has revealed he would like a part in Downton Abbey.
The actor, who is set to join EastEnders as Queen Vic pub landlord Mick Carter, said he is “talented enough” to appear on ITV’s hit period drama, and wants to challenge people’s expectations of him.
“I’m talented enough to do it, it’s whether they’d have me. I could be a barrow boy. Or I could do the posh thing,” he told Heat.
“I just think that, you know, I’ve got such a persona that when people think of Danny Dyer, people probably wouldn’t see past that.”
Danny, who has started filming his scenes for the BBC soap, admitted he has been trying to learn the ropes from co-star Shane Richie, who plays current landlord Alfie Moon, ahead of his Walford screen debut on Christmas Day.
“Shane Richie has been great. He was running the Queen Vic, and you need to learn how everything works. I couldn’t even open the f***ing till. It’s a lot to take on, it’s a lot mentally to remember and he’s just there to show me around and stuff,” he said.
The 36-year-old said he was starstruck by June Brown, who plays Dot Cotton.
“Dot Cotton is amazing, too. She’s 86 years old and she’s still on set learning lines. She’s very professional – she’s June f***ing Brown. It’s very surreal,” he added.
