The European Union has agreed to a draft law to make broadband infrastructure cheaper to build and could make the technology more available across the continent.
The law will enable broadband companies to share plans and costs with firms in other sectors, such as gas, sewerage and transport.
MEPs are recommending a proposal for broadband-ready labelling for houses and new office buildings, which they say should be equipped with in-house infrastructure ready for broadband connection once built or renovated.
MEP Edit Herczog said the objective was to accelerate digital infrastructure to eventually enable every house in Europe to receive digital services.
