Madchen Amick: I want to direct

Madchen Amick has revealed she wants to make a TV programme about mental illness.

The Twin Peaks actress currently stars in television series Witches Of East End, but admitted she also fancies stepping behind the cameras, and has the perfect project in mind.

She said: “There are so many things I’d love to do, so many great filmmakers that I’d love to work with. I think something that would be interesting would be a project that explores mental illnesses, trying to erase the stigma of it, and exploring how people come to terms with it.”

Asked if she would like to write and direct it herself, Madchen said: “Yeah, I’d really love to. I’ve been too busy acting, but I’d like to get to a place where I can put projects together. I definitely aspire to direct and produce.”

In Witches Of East End, the 43-year-old stars as Wendy, one of a family of four witches living in modern times.

And she admitted it has been fun to tackle a feisty character.

She said: “Wendy doesn’t really like to follow rules, so she’s constantly pushing the envelope. She gets herself in trouble mostly. Joanna (Julia Ormond) is the more practical sister of the family who’s trying to keep everything under the radar, and Wendy is out doing stuff that probably brings a little too much attention to everyone.”

“I’m definitely having a blast with her,” she added.

The show also stars Rachel Boston and Jenna Dewan-Tatum.

:: Witches of East End is shown on Tuesdays at 10pm on Lifetime.
