Murderer Marine should be named

A Royal Marine convicted of murdering an injured insurgent in Afghanistan should be publicly named, leading judges have ruled.

Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas, sitting with Mr Justice Tugendhat and Mr Justice Holroyde in London today, also said two acquitted servicemen should be named.

The question of the naming of two other Royal Marines, against whom charges were discontinued, will be the subject of a further hearing.

Lawyers for the five challenged an order which lifted anonymity following the conviction of one of them at a court martial.

The court is now dealing with the question of any likely appeals from its decisions.
