A person has died after a collision on a motorway in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
The anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25, between junctions 11 for Chertsey in Surrey, and junction 10 for the A3, was closed for several hours following the accident involving a car and a lorry which happened at 1.42am.
Traffic was being diverted off the motorway and sent via Ottershaw while vehicle recovery and investigations were being carried out.
Surrey Roads Police tweeted: “Sadly the RTC on the #M25 has resulted in a fatality. If you witnessed the collision at 0142hrs between J11&10. call 101 quote ref P14000113″
A Surrey Police spokesman said: “The collision, involving a blue Lexus and a white HGV lorry which were both travelling anti-clockwise, took place between junctions 10 and 11 around 1.40am.
“A woman in her 30s from the London area, who was a rear passenger in the Lexus, suffered life-changing injuries as a result of the collision and died en-route to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.
“The driver of the Lexus suffered minor injuries.
“The motorway was partially closed while emergency services dealt with the incident but was fully reopened by 6am.”
