British actress Kate O’Mara, who starred in hit US soap opera Dynasty in the 1980s, died on Sunday at the age of 74, her agent said.
O’Mara was famous for playing Cassandra “Caress” Morrell, the scheming sister to Joan Collins’ Alexis Colby in Dynasty.
O’Mara died this morning in a nursing home in Sussex, southeastern England, after a short illness, her agent Phil Belfield said.
“She was extraordinary, she had so much energy and vitality with a love for theatre and acting,” Belfield added.
Joan Collins also expressed her sadness at the death of her screen sister.
She tweeted: “Tragic news about Kate O’Mara, we had great fun on Dynasty when she played my sister Caress who Alexis insisted on calling CASSIE! R.I.P.”
Born in 1939 in Leicester, central England, O’Mara’s first television acting roles were in the 1960s.
However, she landed her biggest and longest-running roles in the 1980s, including in British television series Doctor Who, Howards’ Way and Triangle.
