Root Samsung Galaxy Gear and Install Pie Controls

Samsung’s first generation Android running smartwatch, Galaxy Gear, features a 1.63in Super AMOLED display, single core 800MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and a 1.9 megapixel rear camera.

Galaxy Gear users can now root their smartwatches following our step-by-step guide. Along with rooting, the tutorial also installs Pie Controls on the smartwatch. Note that rooting the device will void the device of its manufacturer’s warranty.

IBTimes UK reminds its readers that it will not be held liable for any damage to the device.

Pre-requisites

1) Install Samsung USB Drivers

2) Navigate to Settings>> Gear Info and tap 10 times on Software version. Go back and enable USB Debugging mode on Galaxy Gear.

3) Download Cydia Impactor and extract it.

How to root Galaxy Gear

Step-1: Connect the Galaxy Gear to the computer and wait for a few minutes for the device to sync with the drivers

Step-2: Open the extracted Impactor_0.9.14 folder and double click the Impactor.exe to run the Cydia Impactor (Click on Run, when notified)

Step-3: Select # drop SuperSU su to /system/xbin/su in the dropdown menu and click Start

Step-4: When the process is finished, disconnect the Galaxy Gear from the computer.
