South's leader says NKorea could get nuke dividend

DRESDEN, Germany (AP) — South Korea’s president says her country would “be the first” to back North Korea‘s membership in international financial institutions if Pyongyang gives up its nuclear program.

Park Geun-hye says the North would also get help attracting foreign investment for its ailing economy if it drops its nuclear aspirations.

Talks aimed at ending North Korea’s nuclear program have stalled since 2009.

Park also told an audience at the Technical University of Dresden on Friday that she is establishing a high-level panel to “prepare for unification” with the North.

According to an English translation of her remarks, Park suggested that North and South Korea could begin by creating an international peace park in the demilitarized zone along the border that separates the two countries.
