Man faces Pc Blakelock murder trial

A man will stand trial today for the murder of Pc Keith Blakelock, who died during the Broadwater Farm riots in north London in 1985.

Nicholas Jacobs, 46, is accused of killing the 40-year-old officer, who was stabbed as he tried to protect firefighters tackling a blaze at a supermarket at the height of the unrest in Tottenham.

Jacobs, who denies the murder, is in custody.

The trial will be heard at the Old Bailey before Mr Justice Nicol and is expected to last up to six weeks.
