Abrams' Almost Human cancelled

JJ Abrams’ series Almost Human has been cancelled after only one season.

The future-set TV programme saw human cops and androids team up to take on criminals, but according to Variety the viewing figures didn’t manage to take it to another run.

It starred Karl Urban and Michael Ealy working for the futuristic police force in 2048 and debuted in the US in November 2013 to solid viewing figures of 9.1 million.

But for the second episode, viewers dropped to six million and by the series finale there were just 5.63 million tuning in.

There had been hopes for a second series, but Fox has filled up its schedules with new shows Backstrom, Hieroglyph and Gracepoint, while reordering past series including The Following.

UK viewers will be able to see the first series when it airs on Watch in May.
