Rush's First LP to Get Extensive Reissue for 40th Anniversary

Last month, Rush‘s self-titled debut turned 40, and now the hard-rock trio’s label has planned an elaborate vinyl reissue of the album, which featured the singles “Finding My Way” and “In the Mood,” as well as the classic-rock radio staple “Working Man.” The new version of Rush, which comes out April 29th, comes on audiophile-quality vinyl that was processed and remastered at Abbey Road. The packaging – a custom box with a lift-off top – features the album’s original art. It also comes with a reproduction of Rush’s first promo poster, a Rush Family Tree poster, a download card and five-by-seven lithographs of the group’s lineup at the time of the album – vocalist-bassist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer John Rutsey.

The group is not currently celebrating its 40th anniversary. Instead, it is in the middle of planning a 41st anniversary tour for next year. “The three of us just had a meeting,” Lifeson told Rolling Stone in March. “We said, ‘Let’s not talk about anything band-wise for the next year. Let’s separate ourselves and come back rejuvenated.’ Unfortunately, the other people at that meeting didn’t hear what we were talking about, so there are already plans being made for spring of 2015. It’s going to be a 41st anniversary tour, or whatever they’re going to call it.”

As for what the band would do to celebrate a milestone like 41 years, the guitarist said he would like to play “different material” this time, as opposed to the trio’s last tour, which featured set lists that leaned heavily on their most recent record, Clockwork Angels. “I’ve always wanted to do some rarer Rush material, and this should be a good opportunity to do that,” he said. “I also think it’s going to be a long tour. We just need to stay healthy until then.”
