Miranda Lambert Enlists Vince Gill, Time Jumpers for 'Platinum' Track

On her upcoming fifth album, Platinum, out this Tuesday, Miranda Lambert returns to her Texas roots with the Western swing track “All That’s Left.” A Tom T. Hall composition, the song features Grammy-nominated swing group the Time Jumpers, which boasts Vince Gill as a member. Time Jumpers leader Kenny Sears says the idea to recruit the 11-piece band was actually that of Blake Shelton, Lambert’s husband.

“Miranda told us that he’s the one that actually suggested to her that she use us,” Sears tells Rolling Stone Country. “She said, ‘I’m not going to give him credit! I’ll tell you guys, but I’m taking the credit for this.’”

Regardless of who gets the pat on the back, the decision was a sound one. Lambert is a natural on the buoyant tune, which, as with most Time Jumpers material, has echoes of Texas swing king Bob Wills.

“Miranda gets that world. She’s a Texas girl. She gets what that music is,” Gill says. “I’ve always liked her because she’s got spunk and she knows what she wants to do. She has that thing. It’s driven inside of her and you can tell that when you’re around her.”

Recorded live, “All That’s Left” is one of three collaborations on Platinum for Lambert. She duets with Carrie Underwood on new single “Something Bad,” and harmonizes with Little Big Town on the dreamy “Smokin’ and Drinkin’.”

While artists like Easton Corbin and Nashville star Charles Esten have all sat in with the Time Jumpers during their regular Monday night gigs at Nashville club 3rd and Lindsley, Gill says the likelihood of Lambert singing “All That’s Left” with them are slim. Through no fault of her own.

“We’re old. We’ve already forgotten it,” says Gill with a laugh. “We couldn’t play that one with a gun to our heads.”
