The final day of Glastonbury will see the most talked about act of the festival finally take to the stage today.
Dolly Parton has been the name on everybody’s lips this weekend, with the country star taking to the Pyramid Stage at 4pm, commonly known as the “Sunday afternoon legend’s slot”.
Excitement has been building ahead of the Jolene singer’s performance, with a flash mob or “Dolly mob” as it has been called, planned for the morning along with a singalongaDoll.
Kasabian will headline the stage later while other acts sure to make sure Glastonbury goes out with a bang include the Black Keys, Massive Attack and Bombay Bicycle Club.
After two days of stop-start showers, many festival-goers will be hoping for a drier finale as previously promised.
However forecasters said further rain is expected today, and with the fields of Worthy Farm having already turned from green to brown, it looks like wellies will have to be worn through to the end.
Parton said she plans to dress in dazzling white for her performance – despite the risk of mud – to ensure fans can make her out on the Pyramid Stage.
The 68-year-old laughed off the perils of ruining her stage outfit in the conditions in an interview for the Radio 2 breakfast show by saying: “Brown and white always looks good together.”
The diminutive country star added: “I’m planning to wear possibly white just so I’ll be seen from a distance, cos I’m not very big. I want to be sure I get seen if I’m going to be seen by that many people.”
Opening the last day of action on the Pyramid Stage will be the English National Ballet, who will make their Glastonbury debut with their performance of Akram Khan’s Dust.
Last night Metallica became the first heavy metal act to headline the festival, playing a selection of their hits including Enter Sandman and One.
There had been a mixed reaction to their top billing but the American four-piece seemed to go down well with the huge crowd that gathered, with many headbanging and singing along.
Meanwhile a woman was airlifted from the festival with spinal injuries yesterday afternoon.
Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance said the woman was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
It is not known how she suffered her injuries. On Friday a 26-year-old man died after he took ketamine at the site.
The man, from Reading in Berkshire, had been taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary in a “life-threatening condition” on Wednesday night.
