American songstress Kelis added colour to Glastonbury as grey clouds loomed above, standing out on the Pyramid stage in a hot pink dress.
The rain held off as she opened her set with a sultry cover of Feeling Good and then went on to sing a selection of her hits including Milkshake, Trick Me and Papa I’m A Millionaire accompanied by a brass section.
Among those making an impressive effort to dance in the mud was Gareth Griffiths, 23, from Birmingham.
The self-confessed super fan said: “I think one of the things with Kelis is that until you see her live, you don’t realise how smoky and soulful her voice is.
“I think she gets written off as a pop singer sometimes but I think there is a lot more depth to her voice.”
Among the many hundreds of people waving flags in the audience was Patrick Hall, 29, who had travelled especially from the United States to attend Glastonbury.
Bearing an American flag, Mr Hall said coming to the festival was on his bucket list of things to do before he turned 30, and it had not disappointed.
“It’s amazing,” he said. “So much better than Coachella. Coachella is for amateurs.”
Asked about the mud, the finance worker who lives in Manhattan, said: “I’ve never seen anything like it before. There are so many people having such a good time and getting so filthy. I love it.”
