Hollyoaks fans can now become characters in their favourite soap – after the show launched a new online game.
Similar to the virtual world of popular game Second Life, players can interact with much-loved characters such as feisty single mum Theresa McQueen and restaurant owner Ste Hay by downloading the free app to their phone or tablet.
Players can become the newest residents of Hollyoaks and receive texts and voicemails from their soap neighbours.
Featuring 100 different levels, the game stars Ziggy Roscoe, Marlena ‘Nana’ McQueen, Theresa McQueen, Phoebe McQueen, Darren Osborne, Ste Hay, Maxine Minniver, Sienna Blake, Leela Lomax, Tom Cunningham, Trevor Royle and Jack Osborne.
The aim of the game is to complete all the levels and race against other players to solve the mystery of Nana’s Missing Pearls.
Along the way users score points and can compete with friends and share high scores on Facebook.
The village of Hollyoaks has been recreated in virtual form, and players can explore inside well known landmarks such as The Dog in the Pond pub, the McQueens’ house, the Roscoes’ garage, the Savages’ Boat and the Dee Valley University Hospital.
The game – built by Brighton games development studio Big Bit for Lime Pictures and Channel 4 – will also allow players to unlock “selfies” allowing them to make and share photos of themselves with their favourite characters.
A Hollyoaks spokesman said: “We are really excited to announce the game which will fill the spaces when Hollyoaks is off-screen. We hope that fans will enjoy seeing the imagined world of Hollyoaks and interacting with characters on the set while sharing scores with friends.”
The game can be downloaded at www.channel4.com/programmes/hollyoaks/articles/all/hollyoaks-the-game.
