Madonna takes children to Malawi

Madonna has returned to Malawi, where she met the President and paid a visit to the orphanage where she adopted her daughter Mercy James.

The Material Girl star, who adopted two children from Malawi – Mercy and son David Banda – chose to spend her Thanksgiving holiday in the African country.

During her trip, Madonna met President Peter Mutharika, who thanked the pop star for bringing David and Mercy back to their birth country.

The 56-year-old singer posted photos of her visit on Twitter, which included images of some of the residents at Kondanani orphanage, and staff at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

“I just met a girl named Maria. @missionariesofcharity,” she wrote in one picture.

In another, where she is snapped playing with some children, Madonna wrote: “Werking on my skilzz @missionariesofcharity #raisingmalawi #rebelheart.”

The mum-of-four also shows off her childish side with daughter Mercy in another photo. ” Getting pushed around by Mercy James at Kondanani Orphanage! #livingforlove.”

The singer is thought to be in the country for her charity, Raising Malawi, which was founded in 2006 and supports community-based projects.

Earlier in the week she helped open a new 50-bed paediatrics ward in the commercial capital, Blantyre, that she helped fund.

Madonna’s visit is believed to be the first since her row with the country’s former president Joyce Banda 18 months ago.
