Alex Walkinshaw has described his forthcoming departure from Casualty as “really sad”.
The 39-year-old actor, who plays nurse Adrian ‘Fletch’ Fletcher in the BBC medical drama, is set to make his exit with an action-packed episode. He has to save Tess Bateman’s life when a train derails.
“It’s a hard situation for Fletch. There are a lot of realisations in his last scenes, and a lot of conclusions he reaches. Things are finalised in Fletch’s mind and he’s really only left with one choice which he makes gallantly,” he told Inside Soap.
Alex added: “He does the right thing and takes his chances.”
After two years on the show, the TV star admitted he found it hard saying goodbye to the team.
“It was just sad because it’s a nice place from top to bottom. Everyone just wants to work hard and make the show better. It’s a really strong cast, too and I’m going to miss it,” he said.
Alex will see Fletch moving upstairs to the wards at Holby City, Casualty’s sister show.
The 39-year-old teased viewers will have to stay tuned to see how his new storylines will unfold.
“In the scenes I’ve already filmed, Fletch is still trying to find his feet. There are a couple of blasts from the past for him, so it’ll be interesting to see how he deals with those!” he said.
