The former coach of “The Voice” announced the news of her son, Sasha Piqué Mebarak, on her website which said that mom and baby are in “excellent health.”
“We are happy to announce the birth of Sasha Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué,” the statement said. “Born January 29 at 9:54pm, in Barcelona.”
The couple also explained the meaning behind baby Sasha’s name, who joins big brother Milan, who was born in January of 2013.
“The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means “defender of mankind” and “warrior,” her blog explained.
The couple, who met while Shakira was filming the video for her 2010 World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa),” announced that they were expecting back in August.
