Actress Sofie Grabol has told Sky News that working with the cast of Fortitude after being treated for cancer was like a “big embrace”.
The Danish star plays the governor of a small, close-knit town where a violent crime takes place.
Stanley Tucci plays a detective with the British police force summoned to solve the murder, while Michael Gambon plays a terminally ill wildlife photographer.
Christopher Ecclestone takes on the role of a professor who is head of the Arctic Research Centre.
The Sky Atlantic HD programme was filmed in Iceland where Grabol said the star-studded cast “got so close, so quickly”.
“I know it’s such a cliche to say that everyone was lovely, but really it was the most generous, lovely group of people,” she said.
Grabol, who made her name as detective Sarah Lund in The Killing, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and took a break from acting while undergoing chemotherapy.
She told Sky’s Isabel Webster that she battled depression during that period.
“It was a great shock and a very, very dark journey … The sense of at once losing your identity,” she said.
“So for me coming here and meeting all these great, great people on Fortitude was like a big embrace.”
:: Fortitude begins on Sky Atlantic HD tonight at 9pm
