Police Hunt Escaped Psychiatric Patient

Police are searching for a man who escaped from a psychiatric hospital in southeast London after assaulting two members of staff.

Paul Williams, 48, made off from the hospital in Stadium Road, Woolwich, just before midday.

A short while later, he attacked the driver of a car in the same road and stole his vehicle.

He then burgled a property in Caldwell Close, also in Woolwich.

Neither the car driver nor the burglary victim needed hospital treatment. The car has since been found.

Williams was last seen near Woolwich Arsenal railway station at around 13:40pm.

He is described as black, bald-headed, around 6ft 3ins tall and of large build.

When last seen he was wearing a black top with black shorts and white trainers and carrying a maroon suitcase.

He speaks with an American accent.

Members of the public have been warned not to approach him.

Anyone who sees Williams is asked to call police on 999 quoting reference 14mis042920.
