Steven Mackintosh has revealed he would be up for appearing in the Luther film.
The 47-year-old actor said he would “love” to reprise his role as Detective Chief Inspector Ian Reed, who was killed in the first series of the BBC crime drama.
“I’d be there in a shot. I’d love to do it,” he said.
” The lovely thing is, it’s apparently a prequel, which would mean I would be alive again. ”
DCI Reed is the disgraced colleague of DCI John Luther, played by Idris Elba, who previously said that the show could be headed for the big screen. The crime drama, which also starred Ruth Wilson and Warren Brown, first aired on BBC in 2010, with the third series shown in July 2013.
“I don’t know when, but we’re definitely trying to do something new for the TV version of Luther and then eventually go on to a film,” Idris told Collider.
Steven, who next stars in Dylan Thomas biopic Set Fire To The Stars, admitted he is in the dark over the film’s development.
“I have no idea. I keep hearing it mentioned,” he said.
“I did briefly do a film (A Hundred Streets) with Idris, and I should have asked him where all that is at. I think it’s a great idea. I’d love it.”
Set Fire To The Stars, which also stars Elijah Wood and Celyn Jones, opens in cinemas on November 7.
